Sign to Shine

Our courses raises deaf awareness and teaches new communication skills for all children to enjoy.

Our course was developed and trialed with hearing and deaf children to make the content accessible, fun to learn and inclusive for all children to enjoy.  It is packed full of games and activities covering topics such as deaf awareness, the alphabet, first conversations, food, animals...to name but a few.  It is a good introduction for children who may wish to go on to take BSL as a GCSE in the future.

*Important to Know

British Sign Language is a legal and protected language, and it’s essential it’s taught by qualified BSL tutors.

Our courses offer an introductory experience only. If you, your school or your staff are interested in official Level 1+ BSL qualifications, we recommend visiting Signature to find accredited courses.

We proudly work with deaf BSL teachers whenever possible. Due to a national shortage, we also work with experienced hearing BSL tutors (minimum Level 3).

We aim to build a national network of BSL teachers to have qualified leaders come to your school but to meet current growing demand, we’ve developed an online learning platform to ensure schools without immediate access to a qualified BSL teacher can still get started.

For more information or to discuss which option works best for your school, please do not hesitate to get in touch - bsl@soundwavesfoundation.org

We’d love to support you on your BSL journey!
