British Sign Language club

Sign to Shine

Our course raises deaf awareness and teaches new communication skills for all children to enjoy.

Our course was developed and trialed with hearing and deaf children to make the content accessible, fun to learn and inclusive for all children to enjoy.  It is packed full of games and activities covering topics such as deaf awareness, the alphabet, first conversations, food, animals...to name but a few.  It is a good introduction for children who may wish to go on to take BSL as a GCSE in the future.

Teaching a visual language improves inclusivity from an early age, integrating and uniting children while providing them with another great way to communicate.

Want to use your BSL Level 6 qualification in a meaningful way working with children?
Looking for flexible work in your local area – and get paid for it?

Join us to inspire young minds, share your BSL expertise, and make a real difference in your community.

We are reaching out to find BSL teachers/TA's/individuals (deaf and hearing) to facilitate BSL Primary after school clubs in your area. Talking Hands have been working in collaboration with Sound Waves Foundation (SWF) to deliver their BSL after school clubs across Sussex and now beyond!

Talking Hands can offer you training in delivering the course, a dedicated support group with other facilitators and a mentor if required.

Courses can be run solo, or with a support facilitator if preferred. Classes are no more than 12 children and all resources are provided. SWF will also manage all communications with the school and administrate on your behalf. This will be a paid role.

To join the team of facilitators we will need:

- BSL profile

- enhanced DBS

- 1st aid certificate

- certificate of safeguarding and online safeguarding

We can help you with these!

If you're interested in the above, we'd love to hear from you. Please email us at bsl@soundwavesfoundation.org
